3 Days in Madrid

This AvidTravellers Madrid adventure is packed with insightful remarks and wonderful experiences. presented in this summary of the trips highlights:

Let's start with a bit of history: Madrid has been the capital of Spain since mid-sixteenth century, when Philip II transferred the capital from Toledo. it was moved to Valladolid for a few years at the start of 1601.

In the Autumn of 2024, the AvidTravellrer started a whirlwind 72-hour journey to Madrid with friends, beginning with a dynamic, history-filled city exploration. Walking through bustling squares, we immersed ourselves in the city's history and dynamic environment.

Our group's diverse choices resulted in numerous activities. Suzanne and Richard began the firstday one evening with an unforgettable supper at Bodega de los Secretos, a relaxing, centuries-old dining establishment filled with appeal. The next my other half and I joined a tapas and white wine walking tour led by the passionate Mario. We checked out numerous regional hotspots. I was faScinated by the Meson de Champinon, a bar restaurant which specialised in mushrooms and only mushrooms. They were delicious, as was the authentic sangria which came with the food. A venue which all members of our group really liked!

Day three was all about cooking, with Pamela and Bill organizing a paella masterclass at the glamorous Ritz Mandarin Oriental. Chef Oliver Menendez assisted us through the complexities of making standard Valencian paella and black rice with squid and lobster. The experience was coupled with tastings of regional sherries and red wines, making it one of the trip's highlights.

We rounded off the weekend with a visit to Teatro Flamenco Madrid. This intimate location showcased the raw feeling and charm of flamenco dancing, providing an ideal cultural capstone.

Throughout the journey, we delighted in extraordinary meals at regional restaurants like Casa Verona and Casa Alberto, where we delighted in authentic Spanish meals such as anchovies in olive oil, croquettes, and even the renowned calamari sandwich. The Mercado de San Miguel was another standout, offering a glimpse into Spain's rich cooking customs.
